Not zitty Kennedy?
![]() I'm afraid I don't know enough about violinists to give a useful answer. Perlman is great, as was Menuhin. And Stern. I love his interpretation of Barber's violin concerto, of which wikipedia says:- Quote:
Quote:
I know I seem to be obsessed with Barber's violin concerto sometimes (sorry) but it is pertinent because Barber was commissioned to write it by a Philadelphia industrialist for his violinist adopted son, Iso Briselli. Briselli allegedly had a strop over the third, perpetuum mobile movement, declaring it unplayable. However, numerous violinists have managed perfectly well over the years. The dissatisfied patron, Samuel Fels, asked for his money back but Barber had spent it.

I always had a soft spot fro Nathan Milstein. It's hard to find recordings but he really outdoes everybody. He is so clear and unpretentious and always underrated! (sorry if this is a touchy subject, you Heifitz fans!)

Difficult to find Milstein's recordings? I don't understand. I've more than 20 Cds
by him, and they aren't really difficult to find. Besides, there were dozens of LPs. |

In such a discussion mention should also be made of...
Michael Rabin Josef Hassid Genette Neveu all of whom came to an untimely end. Perhaps being a violin virtuoso is not good for one's health. Also mentionalble in dispatches... Josef Suk - beautiful understated playing. and perhaps others |

I got Maxim Vengerov playing Lalo and Saint Saens Concerto. Unfortunately the latest news is Vengerov got injury and now switch to conductor role, I hope he still back to violin playing.
