I was so sad when he died but carried on watching Countdown because of Carol. But then when she left, I haven't watched it since.

Richard is also famous for being teased in regards to being 'twice nightly Whiteley'. His retort was 'Once yearly..nearly!' He was great.


My sister bought his biography not long after he passed away. It was delivered to my mum's house, but they were burgled before my sister could call in for the book. The police found the book hurled over a hedge! It was obviously not to the burglars' taste!
