PC World said it would open its flagship store on London's Tottenham Court Road at midnight on 21 October to sell the operating system...

I stopped in a pub just now for a quick coffee and there was a TV tuned to BBC News24. The anchor was interviewing the BBC technology expert:

Anchor: Windows Vista was a failure with basic problems like people's printers failing to work. Is Windows 7 any better?

Technology Expert: Uh... um... maybe, maybe not...

The formal launch will take place over several days in New York at a series of events that will see appearances by Microsoft boss Steve Ballmer and other senior executives.

I'm sticking with XP. As soon as I've a spare machine I'm wiping the hard drive, installing open source, testing everything there, then moving entirely off MS for good. It seems ludicrous to have anything to do with Steve Ballmer.

Default Scary Monster?

Is that man for real
Definitely sticking to XP, not that I ever really liked it. Bit late to go back to 98, but I know a lot of oldies that stuck with that too.
Wish I had gone for a Mac last time. Hello Philidor, I,m back

I went for a Mac more than year ago and I don't regret
No more Windows for me nor anything from Microsoft.

Microsoft really just makes me sick. Windows Vista hasn't even been out that long and here they introduce a new program. Why don't they just keep Vista and make Windows 7 an update for it? Damn greedy company.

You know it makes sense! My Ubuntu-only laptop has served me well for 1.5+ years. However I have to own up that I'm posting this from my XP desktop

Yeah, but you're one of the few people in the Northern Hemisphere who's got the darn thing to work.

I'm running Vista and I'm actually quite content with it.

Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala is available to download from today (Thursday 29/10) so you might like to try that Philidor. You don't have to wipe your hard drive or install it to make sure that it works with your hardware, just run it from the live CD. If you do decide to install, it can partition your hard drive and set up your machine as a dual boot if you wish
