Default Current Purchases......

This is the thread to share with us what music you actually decided upon, and purchased.

My latest:

EDIT: That doesn't look the best in the world. I'll do better next time.

Not really "current" as in right now, but here are some purchases I made last week:

I'm really interested in what you think of the Boulez Mahler. I understand that Boulez tends to bring out the details of a piece. It just intrigues me how he would interpret Mahler.

I have all the Hahn except the Beethoven (which I wasn't really interested in), and the Barber (which I would like). The Nielsen sounds interesting and I'll bookmark that for future investigation.

Boulez's Mahler is pretty good. He has some hefty (and I do mean hefty) competition with the likes of Bernstein, Tennstedt, Chailly, Abbado...well you know the list. He does do a good job on the recordings I've heard so far. I've only heard his recordings of the 7th, 6th, and 1st. The 1st is an fantastic recording. I would recommend you start with the 1st from Boulez. I write reviews on Amazon and I wrote a review about it last week. Anyway, what yes Boulez lays bare the structure of the music in an almost transparent way. I'm not sure if I agree with the way he conducts Mahler, but it's a truly intriguing listen to say the least.

The reason I got the Hahn Beethoven recording was 1. it was cheap as dirt (about $3 brand new) and 2. the Bernsten "Serenade," but I am interested in hearing what she does the old Beethoven workhorse.

By the way, the Nielsen set with Salonen and the Swedish Radio Symphony is fantastic. He's giving ol' Blomstedt a run for his money as we speak!!!

For comparison i bought 2 CDs of 2 different ensembles and soloists ...one an older record but historical, the other a recent one...

...but this is the version i really really wanted...unfortunately, it's not available in the only store that sells Baroque Music CDs in our country...
