-13C here in Moscow this morning - and it's Christmas Eve according to the calendar of the Russian Orthodox Church.

We were skidding and falling around on the icy pavements last night as we plodded back from the Boris Berezovsky Schumann/Liszt recital.

A mild -4 this morning in Vienna, but we have a lovely soft, fine snow coming down and gently coating the trees and cars.

According to the colour coded map it was up to minus 3 last night.

I bet it is now.

It suddenly went incredibly cold this afternoon and then warmed up a bit again. I went to corner shop (all of 50 yards) and felt like Captain Oates.

The office finally warmed up to a comfortable temperature at around 6pm, when it was time to go home.

Current Temp. in Arkansas: 32F/0C.

(Our harshest winter weather is usually in January and February so the worst is yet to come for us.)
