Default The Willow Song

The Willow Song, as quoted in Shakespeare's "Othello", is famous as Desdemona's lament. The willow, a symbol of forsaken love, was part of the imagery associated with Elizabethan melancholy, and the text to the song even describes in detail the typical posture of a melancholy lover.

Who's the composer? I think it's a traditional song but I wonder if it's from Renaissance. Is it?
Here it says that the music is from Arthur Sullivan

Yes, the song is late Renaissance.

The earliest copy is in a
lute book dated 1583.

The Dallis Lute book is dated 1583, and is now in the library of Trinity College, Dublin. A version of the song is also to be found in the British Museum.
