I have been looking for it for such a long time.
If you know any of the music that comes after it I would appreciate the information as well but the music at 57 is what I am really looking for.
Thank you!

Yes, that's very good, isn't it? )

I wonder what it is? It might have been specially written for the series?

I'm afraid I can't provide any enlightenment either, other than suggesting: might it be Shostakovitch?

Might be Shostakovich, but I do think it's especially composed to accompany this documentary/series.

I don't hear any of Shostakovich's normal stylistic elements in the music... although it could possibly be his? And I doubt a documentary made in Britain in that period would have used a DSCH soundtrack

I would have guessed it might be any of the very decent composers working in Britain at the time? Wilfred Josephs? Alan Hoddinott?

i did not hear much Shostakovich either - many composers do use his
dot-dash rhythmic style to create the needed tension, that would be
suitable for this film. i'd guess it was a British film composer - like
John Addison, but it was not his style either.
Is there a date for this film - you could look up (British- if it is one) film
composers from that time and see if they have any titles like this
