Default Jean Baptiste Lully

A very short extract from a French film about the fantastic Lully with a short bit from the Te Deum.
Apologies for the unhappy ending, but it is based on fact that poor man put his cane through his foot whilst beating time, his toe later turned septic and gangerine set in and he later died. He refused to have his toe amputated.

This music is absolutely mind blowing in its beauty , exhiliration and majesty.

It would be nice if Lully were occasionally remembered for his astonishing operas and ballets....

.... and not only that thing about his foot

Yes, I do recognize that Lully is a genius and one of my favourite composers.

Total joy, periodinstrumentfan, total. Is that from the play by Moliere? Listening to Lully (which I adore) one can hear how advanced was the later Rameau. Lully's arias hark back to Monteverdi whilst Rameau's move us forward.

Yes, Tarantella. It's the song of the Music Teacher's pupil right after the overture of Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme. ^_^d

Agree entirely with Reiner Torheit, it is sometimes strange how we tend to dwell on certain aspects of Composers' Lives, even Works, thinking of poor Pachelbel who seemingly ONLY wrote 2 Worthy bits of music, and can ignore the broader spectrum of their Oeuvres! This might also go under the Category of Baroque Myths & Legend, likened to Purcell's alleged Coffee poisoning affair!
